At ICC Wales, the safety of our visitors and teams is of paramount importance and since early 2022, we have been leading the way in our goal to increase awareness of Martyn’s Law across all sectors within the Events Industry.
As this important legislation evolves, ICC Wales continues to work with key industry partners to ensure that the Events Industry are kept informed of the latest developments and have a voice in shaping the law to ensure that it is fit for purpose.
In May 2017, Figen Murray’s son, Martyn Hett, was killed in the Manchester Arena Terrorist attack following a concert by the American singer Ariana Grande.
As a direct result of this act of terrorism, 22 people tragically lost their lives and over 1,000 people were injured in one of the deadliest attacks in the United Kingdom.
Figen Murray is a remarkable woman and despite her devastating loss, she has channelled her grief into campaigning for a law in her son’s name, ‘Martyn’s Law’ to ensure that public spaces and venues put the safety and security of the public first.
Following the Government’s Public Consultation in 2021, it was announced in early 2022 that Martyn’s Law would compel venues to be legally required to consider the threat from terrorism and implement mitigation measures to keep people safe.
We have put together a selection of useful tools and resources to support Martyn's Law.

Figen has been knitting teddy bears for many years as she knows that creativity is good for our mental health. It is her belief that every grown up should own a teddy bear as people often forget to have fun and let their hair down once in a while when they grow up.
After we launched our Martyn’s Law Report last year, Figen sent us a Peace Bear called ‘Hope’ and Hope helps us to raise awareness about this important legislation when we attend Trade Exhibitions as we take her with us and distribute miniature Peace Bears to our visitors.
What name will you give your Peace Bear…… and what’s their story?
ICC Wales would like to pay tribute to Figen Murray OBE for all her help and support during our Martyn’s Law campaign journey – she is a truly remarkable woman who has created a fitting legacy for her son, Martyn Hett, which will make a significant difference in keeping our visitors safe at our venues “so that they can go home safely at night”.
We would also like to thank our Industry Partners who are working with us closely to ensure that we continue to increase awareness across all sectors of the Industry.
Below are just some of the accolades we have been honoured to receive for the Martyn's Law campaign.
